Solo Show in June, 2014
I am thrilled to say that I will be having a one-person show at Galerie La Fabrique (also know as La Fab) in Chelsea, Quebec. The opening/vernissage will be on Thursday, June 12, 2014 from 5 to 7 pm and the show will be up until July 6, 2014.
After years of “wood-shedding” in my studio, this is the first time this body of work will be on display in public. I will be showing my sewn and painted flower sculptures, some of which can be seen in the Mixed Media – Fine Art portfolio on this website. I’ve been working all winter so there are some new pieces to show. A beautiful Bittersweet Nightshade is just about finished!
The history of the gallery is an interesting one. It is housed in the old rectory next to St. Stephen’s Church in the village of Old Chelsea. The original rectory was built in the early 1850s but was destroyed in 1890. A new rectory, the one we see today, was built in 1896 and was the home to many parish priests over the years. This heritage building was originally slated for demolition due to lack of funding for maintenance, but it was restored with the generous support of the community and countless volunteer hours for renovations, and the Centre of the Arts , Culture and Heritage Chelsea opened its doors in November 2012. The Centre has become the heart and hub of the village, providing a venue for artists, craftspeople, designers, musicians, writers, and historians to showcase their work while allowing the community to enjoy cultural and heritage activities. Studios are available for rent on the upper level and there is a wonderful boutique full of unique and high quality arts and crafts for sale on the main floor.
If you live in the area I hope you’ll come and help me celebrate on June 12!
